So in the first spring of my current  fort militant fire imps march halfway across the map to kill my broker/bookeeper/leader dwarf and a few dogs. Afterwords Im lazy and wait until the caravan came to assign the now empty positions in my noble screen. I noticed that there was no liaison at the time but attributed it to the fact that I waited so long to assign a broker and the fact that none of my remaining dwarves had any skills for these things.

However its been many years since and I've yet to receive a liaison from the mountain homes, tho I do get one from the human civ, I've checked my units list and he doesnt show up in there as dead so I know he never died on my map at least. As far as I know there wasnt anything overly threatening in that first fall on my map that would have come after him/chased him off, as the imps all died in their raid on my wagon.

Anyways is there a way to check, maybe in legends or something, and find out what happened to my liaison?

Then he wouldn't be getting a caravan?

I also have a problem like that, except with the elves, but I'm dwarves so I don't know.

The thing I hate most, if the liaison dies then there is never a new one.
The one from the humans was an elf who had lost his left arm. Due to that pain he passed out every other square.
And since he took so long to get to my base, he was ambushed by goblins. Mostly due to spawning alone.

Caravan, Nobles (but the King, i guess) and Migrants can come from another Dwarven Civ.
But if you got a Civ that does not have a Mountainhome, there will be no liason - i am playing a map like this right now.

Yes liason and diplomats not being replaced is serious  Angry
More so since they tend to spawn far away from the Carvan and hence enjoy no protection from the guards.
Really annoying.

Anyway... In whatever fashion your liason got MIA - just forget about him. He won't come back.

Might he have been killed (or died of old age) off-screen? Maybe the mountainhomes were attacked and you just don't know it!

...it could happen.

Anyway, yes you could probably check using the legends screen. Save and backup your fortress, abandon it, and search like hell for the dwarven liason.
