1  Other Projects / DF Questions / Re: Ever capture a live fish? on: October 29, 2008, 04:41:47 am

That's a pretty clever idea - tried something similiar once with no luck...

I had a chasm and a river on one board, so I created a waterfall into a pond and let the pond drain into the chasm through some grates.  I was hoping fish would fall over the waterfall, not be able to go back up it, and be caught in the pond because they couldn't swim through the grates.  I did see fish in the pond occasionally, but they didn't seem to stick around for whatever reason.  I have started to think that fish just randomly generate on river/pond tiles, swim around and disappear again after a time.

I have built aquariums from glass and filled them up with water.  I just can't capture any live fish to put in them Sad   The kennel idea sounds interesting, but it seems farfetched - did that really work?  I mean.. warcarp?Huh  Dogs are the only thing I've been able to train into war animals..

I still want to run a river into a chasm someday.
2  Other Projects / DF Suggestions / Beds Require/Can Use Cloth? on: October 29, 2008, 04:38:42 am
Having a bed without sheets seems odd. Something could be done here.

And yes, I acknowledge the futility of making a DF suggestion while the Bay 12 forums are down for the count.
3  Other Projects / DF Modding / Re: Sieges/Ambushes: Moar? on: October 29, 2008, 04:37:21 am
In the entity mods for gobbos and such, there exists a line with two variables, 1 and 2. They answer the prompt for [WEALTH_TRIGGER:] or such. I do beleive, changing it to 1 would make goblins attack earlier.
Not exactly.
There's three lines:
   [PROGRESS_TRIGGER_POPULATION:2]
   [PROGRESS_TRIGGER_PRODUCTION:2]
   [PROGRESS_TRIGGER_TRADE:2]
As I recall, that means that they won't siege or trade until you're of fortress level 2 (80 dwarves)
Setting them to 0 should make them siege immediately.

Having tried this, setting it to 0 turns it off. I have it set to 1, which helps marginally...

With any luck, the Army Arc improvements for next release (here's hoping) will ramp up the military game we all so bloodthirstily crave.

So I'm making a clear glass fortress in the middle of a tropical rainforest. However, I feel the need to murder more trees for fun and profit.

Would having ornamental, operational axles connected to no machines be a good way to give it a little more "oomph", or would their operation murder my framerate?
