Title: Operation screw the map
Post by: shoruke on October 28, 2008, 10:51:10 pm
I have a goal: to create the mother OF THE MOTHER of all caveins. Yes, the grandmother of all caveins. I'm going to channel out all four sides on every z-level, and see what kind of devastation I can wreak. By sacrificing the anvil at embark, and bringing only 7 picks, food & drink, and some mining skills, it should actually go pretty fast.

hehe. Although I have to retry... 1 month in, after waaaay too much designating, the dwarves were literally killing themselves. Falling down their own pits and stuff. Quite nasty. Now (as in tomorrow) I'm going to try it again with better organization.

You need to channel out the edges on something like 15 - 20 z-Level + completely remove one z-Level.
Judging from my current project a would say yuo need to last at least 3 years.
(I hollowing out a big are on the map. To completely clear one z-Level for roughly a 2x2 map takes me about one year with 5 legendary miners.)
So i think will need to set up some food/living and operation - just taking picks and food will most likely not make you last long enought to finish the project.

1 planter (plump helmets in soil, all seasons), 1 brewer/cook, 5-15 legendary miners. Maybe 1 jack of all trades for the rest.
Population capped, sieges and ambushes disabled.
Temperature disabled to maximize the framerate.
No tame animals.
No aquifer or features on the map. Rivers are not so bad as you can collapse their beds with an artificial cave-in above them.
That would probably be enough to be reliably done.
